My 3rd- and 9th-graders are having trouble with their homework. I have tried to help them as much as I can, but they need more assistance. Does the library offer any type of after-school tutoring?

Yes, we do! The Dallas Public Library is pleased to offer Homework Help through Brainfuse. Homework Help provides a unique blend of one-to-one homework help for students in grades K-12, as well as state-aligned skills building, test preparation, and writing assistance. All you need to get started is a library card and an internet connection. If you do not have a library card, Homework Help can be accessed on any of the Library’s computers. Also, there is a Brainfuse app to access Homework Help for iOS and Android devices.

Live tutors are available online, Monday – Sunday, 2 PM – 11 PM in English and Spanish. Students communicate with their tutors using an interactive whiteboard to chat, write, draw, copy/paste text or images and graph homework problems. All live sessions are saved and can be replayed as well as shared with friends and teachers by email. Using the CloudPack feature, students can store and upload MS Word, Excel, JPG and other accepted file types directly onto the whiteboard. Other special features include the Writing Lab, the 24/7 Center, FlashBulb flashcards, SAT/ACT test prep and collaboration tools. In addition, all of these subjects are available: Subjects include:

  • English / Language Arts
  • Spanish Language Lab
  • Social Studies / History
  • Science – including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
  • Math – including Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus

All BrainFuse tutors are vetted with background checks and for subject specialty credentials. To access Homework Help, start at the Dallas Public Library homepage. In the right hand corner, select the kids or teen tab, next select Homework Help in the menu bar and you will be connected to the service. Registration is not required to get live tutoring help. However, it is recommended so that students can track their progress. Registration is required for certain modules like The Writing Lab and the SkillSurfer.
