Check out these five free educational resources available with your BWG Library card
Submitted by Lisa Worobec, Teen Services Librarian at the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library
As our community stays safe at home and outside of our usual routines, the BWG Library still has resources available to support your learning! Whether you are a teen looking for homework help, or a parent looking to support learning at home, the library has resources to support you!
First things first – you’ll need your BWG library card to access these resources.
No card? No problem! Everyone is able to sign up for a virtual card while our building is temporarily closed. Simply go to the library’s website at www.bradford.library.on.ca, click the My Account button in the top right hand corner and select Register Now. It’s that easy!
Most of the library’s digital resources require you to enter your library card number, so you will want to have that handy.
Our educational resources can be found in the Digital Resources Tag, under A-Z resources, and all of the educational resources listed below have a tutorial video available. All tutorial videos can be found through the BWG Library’s Facebook page here.
Here are our top five educational supports for students of all ages:
-
Brainfuse is our top pick for student learning, for almost all ages. This online platform offers Ontario-curriculum-specific, and subject-and grade-specific breakdowns of topics students will be learning, from grades 3 to 12. Brainfuse focuses on core subjects like math, science and literacy topics- not all elective courses are covered. Brainfuse also offers online live tutoring support, for free!
- How-to connect with a free tutor online:
- When you log into Brainfuse, you will want to go to the Expert Help section. Tutoring support is accessed here. Also, under Expert Help is the Skill Surfer tab, where you can explore Ontario Elementary and Secondary curriculum learning, as well as more adult learning topics!
-
Encyclopedia Britannica is another great, all-ages resource that provides reliable information on almost any topic. There are three levels of content (elementary, high school and adult learners) and easy ways to browse or search topics!
-
Lynda.com is a go-to for full courses on a variety of topics in business, tech, media arts and more. Pick and choose from thousands of videos and topics, all of which will help you learn a new skill!
-
Kids info bits is a really great option to support learning, just for kids. Friendly formatting and child-appropriate content makes this resource a kid-favourite. This is best for learners from kindergarten to grade five.
-
Finally—for fun learning for all ages, check out Mango languages – and try learning a new language! There is an app you can download and begin your journey to master Spanish, French, Pirate, or dozens of other languages!
