Social Media Ads
Running ads on social media can be a very effective way to let your community know about the resources you offer. Brainfuse has created a tool kit to assist you with ad creation.
If you have connected Facebook and Instagram, you will only need to create one ad to run on both platforms. We recommend going to the Facebook ad manager to set up your ad.
Choosing an Ad Objective
There are 3 types of campaign objectives:
- Awareness – optimized for showing your ad to the largest number of people in your target audience within your budget constraints;
- Consideration – optimized for a specific action such as link clicks or comments;
- Conversion – optimize for a very, very specific type of conversion, i.e. sales, newsletter sign-ups, event registration, etc.
While you can use any of these types of objectives, we recommend using one of the following:
- Awareness > Reach (Show your ad to as many people as possible in your target audience)
- Consideration > Traffic (Send people from Facebook to any destination you choose, such as your website’s landing page, a blog post, etc.)
Every community is different so you may want to test to determine which works best for you. Additional information about ad objectives can be found on the Facebook Choosing the Right Ad Objective page.
Dynamic Creative
Turn on Dynamic Creative mode. Dynamic creative takes multiple ad components (such as images, videos, text, and calls-to-action) and then combines them in new ways to improve your ad performance. It allows you to automatically create personalized creative variations for each person who views your ad, with results that are scalable.
Setting Your Budget
Facebook makes it very easy for you to reach community members without requiring a large budget. There are 2 types of budgets: daily and lifetime. We recommend using a lifetime budget.
Daily is the average amount you want to spend per day. For example, if you run an ad for $5 per day for 30 days, your total charged will be $150. We recommend starting low (you can have your daily budget be as low as $1) and adjusting as needed.
Lifetime allows you to set your total budget for the given timeframe and Facebook will adjust the daily spend based on the results of the campaign.
Building Your Target Audience
One of the most important things to do when building your ad campaigns is to create your target audience. The best way to specify the audience is to choose “Saved Audience” (even if you have not created an audience yet). You will see a window that allows you to choose the audience demographics for each area that can be targeted. Here are our recommendations for the audience:
- audience name
- keep this specific to your campaign, i.e. Brainfuse JobNow, Brainfuse VetNow
- location
- use your city name or zip code
- age
- job seekers age range recommendation 18 – 55
- veterans age range recommendation 25 – 64
- gender
- all
- languages
- skip – the ads are in English
- detailed targeting – this is based on which area of the JobNow/VetNow program you are promoting. You will want to review and adjust this as needed based on your community. You cannot copy and paste this list. You may want to start building your detailed targeting based on a few of these keywords and use the built-in suggestion tool on Facebook. Keep an eye on your audience size. There will be notifications if the audience is too narrow or too broad.

Adding the Creative Elements
After you get the audience and your budget set up, it’s time for adding the creative elements.
- First, make sure you have both your Facebook and Instagram selected if you have accounts on both.
- Under create ad, choose carousel ad.
- Add each of the 6 images for the carousel ad (you can find these below).
- For each image, you need to include a headline and website URL.
- You will want to make sure that the headlines grab the viewer’s attention.
- suggestions: Free job coaching, Free resume review, Free VA help, etc.
- Uncheck “show best performing cards first”.
- Primary text – this should not exceed 125 characters. It is ok if you do, but by keeping it at or under 125 characters all the text will show on the ad.
